Inaugural CIC Robot Competition Showcases AI-Powered Innovation in Construction

Date:

The Construction Industry Council (CIC) has unveiled its first-ever “Construction Robot Competition and Exhibition,” a flagship event spotlighting AI-powered robots in smart construction. Held under the banner “From Bay Area to Globe: Connecting the World,” the three-day showcase marks a significant leap toward automated, safer, and more efficient building sites.

This year’s initiative—co-organised with the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Smart Construction Industry Development Alliance—saw participation from over 100 teams across the Greater Bay Area. The competition brought together construction robotics innovators to tackle real-world challenges head-on. The event also featured an international forum where experts, civil servants, and industry leaders exchanged insights on transformative technologies.

CIC Chairman Ir Prof Thomas Ho underscored the event’s urgency, citing the integration of AI-powered solutions as key to addressing labour shortages, improving safety, and unlocking scalability in construction. He spotlighted how painting and spraying robots deployed across public housing projects have boosted efficiency by up to 50% and cut manpower needs by 70%. Other innovations—such as welding bots, remote-controlled H-beam cutters, AI-enhanced tower cranes, and robotic inspection tools like drones and robot dogs—are redefining on-site operations.

This competition not only marks a milestone in construction technology but also cements Hong Kong’s growing leadership in building the GBA smart construction innovation ecosystem.
