Uttar Pradesh has taken a pioneering step in road safety by becoming the first state in India to pilot an AI‑based road safety project, approved by the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH). The six-week initial prototype, launched at zero cost to the state, leverages big data analytics through a collaboration between ITI Limited and global tech firm mLogica, as part of a ₹10 crore allocation in the 2025‑26 state budget.
By analyzing comprehensive inputs, from accident reports and vehicle telematics to weather conditions, driver profiles and road infrastructure, the AI model aims to pinpoint accident causes, detect black spots and shape data‑driven safety policy interventions. Upon successful demonstration, the AI engine is expected to scale across transport services, including faceless licensing, e‑challan, revenue collection, enforcement modernization and integration with the Vahan‑Sarathi platform, marking a major milestone in modern, efficient, tech-enabled governance
