SCR Cites Technical and Infrastructure Hurdles for Additional MMTS Services to Cherlapalli

Date:

In response to rising commuter demand, the South Central Railway (SCR) has clarified that technical and infrastructural limitations are preventing the immediate introduction of additional MMTS (Multi-Modal Transport System) train services to Cherlapalli station.

Cherlapalli, envisioned as a future terminal to decongest Secunderabad station, has been gaining traction as a transit point for eastern Hyderabad. However, according to SCR officials, the station currently lacks adequate platform infrastructure, advanced signalling systems, and sufficient track capacity to handle increased train frequency.

“While there is growing demand for more MMTS services to Cherlapalli, we are constrained by critical infrastructure gaps,” said a senior SCR spokesperson. The station, which presently caters to limited MMTS and long-distance trains, is part of a long-term development plan under the MMTS Phase-II expansion.

Railway authorities also highlighted that any increase in service frequency must align with safety protocols, operational feasibility, and resource availability. Expansion efforts, including platform extension, signalling upgrades, and yard remodeling, are underway but will require time and coordinated execution.

Until then, commuters will need to depend on existing MMTS routes and other public transport modes. SCR assured that it is committed to enhancing suburban rail connectivity in Hyderabad in a phased and sustainable manner.
