The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has announced plans for a 104-km greenfield access-controlled expressway to link the upcoming Vadhvan Port in Palghar district with the Mumbai–Nagpur Samruddhi Mahamarg at Bharvir near Igatpuri.
This major infrastructure project aims to streamline freight movement from central Maharashtra to the west coast while avoiding Mumbai’s heavily congested roads. “The alignment has been submitted to the state government for approval. Once we get the nod, land acquisition will begin,” a senior MSRDC official stated.
The proposed expressway will begin at Bharvir Khurd and extend to Tawa village near Charoti, connecting with National Highway 48. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will construct an additional stretch from Charoti to Vadhvan Port.
Tendering for the project will proceed after substantial progress is made on the Vadhvan Port construction. Once operational, the expressway is expected to reduce travel time between Igatpuri and Vadhvan Port to just 1 hour and 15 minutes.
Additionally, the government is evaluating proposals for a greenfield airport near Vadhvan Port, which would significantly boost the region’s logistics, warehousing, and infrastructure capacity.
