Nagpur’s Rs 25,567 Cr Mobility Plan Set to Redefine Urban Transport

Date:

Nagpur is poised for a major transport overhaul under a ₹25,567 crore Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP) aimed at transforming the Nagpur Metropolitan Region’s infrastructure. Developed jointly by MahaMetro and RITES, the CMP targets urban congestion relief and sustainable mobility across a 3,780 sq km area serving nearly 43.7 lakh residents.

Sponsored in three phases—Phase 1 (₹13,927 cr), Phase 2 (₹10,774 cr) and Phase 3 (₹865 cr)—the initiative features a 148‑km, six‑lane peripheral ring road connecting major highways including NH‑44, NH‑47, NH‑353, NH‑53 and the Samruddhi Mahamarg. It encompasses electric bus fleets, public bicycle sharing, intelligent traffic systems, pedestrian walkways, off‑street parking and enhanced metro and bus services.

The CMP also includes a high-priority Metro Phase 3 corridor from Sitabuldi to Koradi, covering 11.5 km of underground tracks and expected to serve around 1.47 lakh daily commuters by 2054. Local and central officials, including CM Devendra Fadnavis and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, recently opened a 15‑day window for suggestions before the DPR is finalized and submitted for approval
