Smart & Cultural: Ranchi to Get Electric Buses, Sohrai Art Corridor & Mega ORR

Ranchi is poised for a transformative leap, thanks to three flagship projects approved by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari after a meeting with MoS Defence Sanjay Seth. First up: ultra‑fast, flash‑charging electric buses developed by Tata Motors that can run 40 km on a mere 15‑second charge. Each bus will seat 135 passengers, including provisions for the differently‑abled and even a coffee/tea counter. Ranchi will become the second Indian city after Nagpur to deploy this cutting‑edge system.

Second, Ranchi’s elevated corridors and the forthcoming outer ring road will be adorned with vibrant Sohrai tribal art, celebrating Jharkhand’s cultural heritage, including motifs symbolizing water, forests and earth. Finally, the ₹6,500 crore Outer Ring Road project has received a green signal, with a Detailed Project Report already underway. This major infrastructure push aims to decongest the city, enhance suburban connectivity and support long‑term urban expansion.

According to Seth, these integrated initiatives reflect Prime Minister Modi and Gadkari’s vision of blending culture, sustainability and smart urban planning, putting Ranchi firmly on India’s development map.
