Hubballi-Dharwad Central MLA Mahesh Tenginakai conducted a thorough site inspection of the KC Circle flyover project on Monday, highlighting that only 38 of the required 74 girders have been installed since work resumed in April. The original August 20 deadline was extended to August 30 to accommodate ongoing construction, but the pace remains insufficient.
Traffic authorities have rerouted vehicles through neighbouring streets, causing significant congestion during peak hours. Local shopkeepers report daily revenue losses, and residents face longer commutes. In response, the Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry formally requested a 10-day extension, warning that any further delays could prompt legal or administrative action.
During the inspection, Tenginakai criticized both the construction agency and PWD officials for failing to meet milestones. PWD Assistant Executive Engineer Satish Naganur acknowledged labour shortages and recent heavy rains as factors, and assured the MLA that additional workers from West Bengal would arrive by July 12 to accelerate girder installation.
Tenginakai, acting on instructions from Union Minister Pralhad Joshi, has scheduled a follow-up inspection for July 15. He has directed daily progress reports and warned that, if the August 30 deadline is not met, legal proceedings will be considered. He stressed that enhanced oversight and increased manpower are essential to reopen the route and alleviate pressure on the city’s transport network.
