The construction of the Polavaram Project received a significant quality assurance milestone after experts from the Central Soil and Materials Research Station (CSMRS) confirmed that the materials being used for the Earth-cum-Rock Fill (ECRF) dam meet the required engineering and safety standards.
A team of geotechnical and construction material specialists conducted detailed inspections over two days, examining the quality of rock, soil and sand used across different sections of the ECRF dam. The assessment covered multiple stretches of the project, with field tests designed to verify whether the construction materials complied with prescribed technical specifications.
According to the inspection findings, all tested materials satisfied the established quality benchmarks. The evaluation forms part of an ongoing independent quality assurance process aimed at ensuring the long-term structural stability and safety of one of India’s largest multipurpose irrigation projects. The inspection programme is expected to continue with additional assessments to maintain consistent quality standards throughout construction.
