Vijay Kumar, Secretary of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW), has inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for several development projects worth Rs 1.93 billion at the Deendayal Port Authority (DPA) in Kandla. These projects represent a major step forward in improving the port’s infrastructure and its role in the national logistics chain.
To handle increasing cargo volumes, the port is focusing on modernizing its warehouse and transport capabilities. Key projects include:
- New Storage: Construction of Dome-shaped Storage Godown No. 4 to significantly increase capacity.
- Road Links: Better coastal road connectivity to National Highway 141 for smoother truck movement.
- Shipyard Development: Land reclamation to support future shipyard operations.
Beyond traditional logistics, the Secretary highlighted the port’s shift toward green energy. He inaugurated a green methanol facility and electric vehicle loaders, reinforcing DPA’s goal of becoming a more sustainable maritime hub.
The visit also covered essential utilities and social projects, including the foundation for a new chemical pipeline and residential quarters for employees. Through these combined efforts, Deendayal Port is positioning itself as a high-efficiency gateway that balances industrial growth with environmental and community responsibility.
