40% Cost Increase in Affordable Housing?

Date:

India’s affordable housing sector is going through a big change. A recent study has shown that the cost of building affordable homes has gone up by 40% over the past few years. This increase is mainly due to higher prices of raw materials like cement and steel, rising labor costs and expensive land. But this also means that the demand for such homes is growing, which is a good sign for the country’s progress.

Even though the costs have gone up, developers are not stepping back. In fact, many builders are now using smarter methods and modern technology to keep houses within reach for middle- and lower-income families. Prefabricated materials, better project planning and government support are helping them manage these rising costs.

Government schemes like the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) are playing a key role in helping people realize their dream of owning a home. These efforts are not just about giving people a roof over their heads; they are about building stronger, safer and more stable communities.

As a nation, we are moving forward. The dream of ‘Housing for All’ is still alive, even if the road has become a bit steeper. With continued support from the government, industry and the people, affordable housing will remain a strong pillar of India’s development journey.
