Mexico has commenced construction on a large refrigerated logistics hub designed to strengthen the export pipeline for avocados and other perishable produce. The 110,000-square-foot facility, located in Pharr, Texas, will be developed in two phases and will include more than 30 loading docks, advanced refrigeration systems, and a 6,700-square-foot mezzanine office area.
The project is part of the broader RioPlex Tour Michoacán initiative, aimed at deepening trade ties between Mexico’s top avocado-producing region, Michoacán, and the U.S. market. Officials and industry leaders have highlighted the centre as a strategic supply-chain asset that will streamline the movement of fresh goods, support job creation, and enhance regional economic growth.
The development also coincides with ongoing upgrades to the Pharr International Bridge, which is currently more than 70% complete. Once finished—expected by early 2026—the bridge will nearly double its capacity in both directions, reinforcing its position as a key entry point for perishable imports.
By expanding cold-chain infrastructure and improving cross-border connectivity, the new construction project is set to meet the rising demand for Mexican avocados while positioning Pharr and the Rio Grande Valley as vital logistics hubs for fresh produce across North America.
