Centre Grants ₹1,000 Cr for Bhoma-Old Goa Highway Expansion

Date:

In a major infrastructure boost for Goa, the Centre has sanctioned ₹1,000 crore for the long-awaited expansion of the Bhoma-Old Goa highway. The project, aimed at decongesting traffic and improving connectivity between North and South Goa, will include widening the stretch to a four-lane highway.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will oversee the project, with land acquisition already in progress. The new road will feature service lanes, flyovers, and proper drainage to ensure smooth flow of vehicles and enhance commuter safety.

Local leaders have welcomed the move, highlighting its potential to reduce travel time and support tourism and local commerce. However, concerns around rehabilitation and environmental impact remain, with calls for sustainable execution of the project.

With this approval, Goa’s road infrastructure takes a step forward toward modernization and improved connectivity, setting the stage for economic growth in the region.
